Was shocked to not see one on the base of the story after a bunch of those moments. I ran over a bunch of crunchy stuff and at one point said out loud like. What I did notice that I could ride much more aggressively on true ice coast hardpack and variable conditions with the niche than I could with the iguchi. Maybe there was a bit of the topsy turvy feeling that's sometimes experienced with CRC boards, but I can't say I really noticed it at all. I think the magnetraction really helps with stopping and slowing down in harder conditions whereas the lifted contact points make it easier for you to lose balance, especially on your heels since you have to lean back a bit more and can lose balance a bit more easily. I fell way more times after swapping boards. From turning on ice to even slowing down or sideslipping on the more icy sections where it was crowded, i was punished on the iguchi.

but when it came to the icy sections I had to back the F up in how aggressive I was being. Again, I did feel more confident with it in the trees, but I also know it well. The board felt much more familiar and the pop was just more easily accessible for me. Because of the stiffness and mid wide WW, it may not have been the most maneuverable board in the trees, but it didn't really hold me back.Īfter lunch on saturday, I switched to the iguchi camber and rode that for the rest of the afternoon. I found myself riding more aggressively on those icy spots than I'd ever really ridden before which was really sketchy at first, but the board is pretty stiff and the sidecut with the mag is extremely confidence inspiring. The board carves amazing and the base is pretty fast. If it wasn't wind exposed, chances were that things were ski'ed off. I was interested in the Story for the slightly wider WW than the iguchi and also to see what the mag would be like if I was riding in super variable conditions.and I have to say that I was pretty impressed.Įven thought there was some snow in the trees, it was extremely windy at times and a lot of the wind exposed trails were boilerplate ice you could see your reflection in. Over the weekend, I stuck mostly to tree runs since the snow was fantastic, but it was sketchy as heck everywhere else. Everyone also shits on CRC boards for the ice coast so there was that entire thing as well. I rode the orca a few weeks ago at steamboat and wondered what an all mountain board with mag would feel like. I set both boards up so I could ride them back to back and do a comparison of sorts.

That board is a riot, but a few conversations on here made me wonder exactly what you give up if you have lifted contact points.

It's no secret that I love my arbor iguchi camber.

They got about 8-10 inches of snow while I was there after getting a full day of rain->sleet->snow. Ridden at Jay Peak over the fri/sat/sun of presidents day weekend. Ridden with burton cartel x bindings and ride fuse boots. 25-30 days first 3 seasons, almost at 30 this season with about 10-15 more days planned. Not necessarily bad in any department, just not the best hold on ice.Posted this elsewhere in the forum and leaving it on here as well so it gets more eyes on it. Not the best edge hold.Ī fine all mountain board. 100% recyclableįelt squirrelly in the backend. It's not that the groom experience on this board was necessarily bad, I just happened to ride it after a board with incredible edge hold and stability, so my objectivity might be slightly skewed. There was not the best edge hold on very icy bits, but that might be because the board itself is so lightweight. I feel like I have ridden quite a few powder boards that also super fun and carvy when it comes to groomers, but in my experience, this was not one of them.
